How many sessions do I need?

Well that depends! Everyone is unique with differing reasons for attending counselling, needs, wants, goals, and even financial situations. The amount of sessions you need depends on you as an individual. There is no one answer to this question, but feel free to reach out to me for a free 15 minute consultation where we can talk about this.

What is the difference between a consultation and booking my first counselling session?

A consultation is basically an information session lasting about 15 minutes by video or phone. We can go over what you are looking for in counselling and in a counsellor, your hopes, availability, and any questions you may have. Your first counselling session is different from this, where we meet for 50 minutes to talk about what brings you into counselling, any past experiences with counselling, your life experiences, goals, concerns, questions, and it gives us all the chance to ask questions and get to know each other.

Is virtual counselling as effective as in person counselling?

Yes! Studies have shown that virtual counselling is just as effective as in person counselling. Virtual counselling allows you as the client to be in a familiar and safe space while we conduct our sessions. You get to decide where you participate in our sessions. Want to be in bed in your pjs while we talk? Of course you can! Whatever makes you comfortable. We can even do EMDR therapy virtually. I send you a link to a website that uses bilateral stimulation through your computer. We do however need those sessions to be done through a tablet or laptop. Still have questions? Send me an email!

What if I can’t afford it?

Contact me! I have some sliding scale spots. We can talk about your situation and find something that could work for you. I am also a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) and Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) which is covered by most insurance providers. If you do have extended health coverage, please check your coverage to see if our sessions would be covered by your plan!

What if I don’t know what to talk about?

That’s okay! You can prepare talking points if you’d like to, or not! Whatever works for you. Counselling is a space for you to openly share in a safe and nonjudgmental environment. Sometimes one topic may lead you to something else or sometimes you may feel awkward or unsure of what to say. That’s okay, too! Together we can navigate your counselling experience and work towards your healing.
